Staff was wonderful and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. It was a feast. Location was a little hard to find. It is near the jigoku or hells of Beppu. Roads were very narrow and we thought we couldn't drive in. Check out videos of the roads around it before heading there to familiarize yourself. The manholes around the Ryokan had steam coming up and it was fun taking photos and videos there. Sleeping on futons was comfortable for us. A thin mattress was placed under the futon so it did not feel like we were sleeping on the ground. The ryokan has an indoor onsen which does not require reservation but it is not private for your own use. It also has two family baths requiring reservation. The family bath was nice and hot spring water took away the weariness of the day.

The staff was so very friendly, especially the lady at the front desk. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and to help us when we needed to find something. One of the most pleasant experiences we had here in Japan! She even explained that we could make use of the private onsen for free, which was amazing. The rooms were also very clean, well maintained and overall great. Would 100% recommend

The owners and staff were all exceedingly excellent and attentive. Dinner was a stunning and delicious array from land, sea, to sky. The onsen was also excellent, quiet and hot. The free alcohol was very smooth, strong and delicious. Futons were very comfortable and there were a lot of cute yukata available in various sizes for wearing during our stay.

All the staff were extremely helpful and nice, helped suggest a wonderful place for us for dinner very near the hotel. the room was clean. the onsen was excellent we made reservation and had the open air private onsen all to ourselves. i made a reservation for a parking space and the hotel ensured i had one right in front of the hotel.

Good location, wonderful breakfast, very friendly hosts. There are communal baths and private onsen in the ryokan, which were absolutely perfect! A huge plus fot the jigoku mushi steam kitchen outside the building, where you can cook your own meal (there is a big supermarket 10min on foot from the place!)
